PI Vision lists event frames in a table. A table tells you an event happened; it does not tell you that three of them overlapped, which one started first, or that one downtime reason accounts for most of the lost hours.
This symbol puts event frames on a time axis, one lane per asset, and adds a Pareto of duration by reason. The question "where did the shift actually go" becomes something you answer by looking rather than by exporting.
Download the package
Purchase the symbol at piforge.app and download the ZIP from your profile. It contains four files: the symbol script (.js), two templates (.html) and an icon (.svg).
Copy the files to the PI Vision server
Extract all four files into the PI Vision extension folder on the server: %PIHOME64%\PIVision\Scripts\app\editor\symbols\ext\ (create the ext folder if it does not exist yet). Use %PIHOME64%, not %PIHOME% — on a PI server those are different trees and PI Vision is only in the 64-bit one.
Restart the PI Vision application
Recycle the PI Vision application pool in IIS (or run iisreset), then hard-refresh the browser (Ctrl+F5) so the new symbol script is loaded.
Add the symbol to a display
Open a display in edit mode. The new symbol appears in the symbol palette on the left. Select it, then drag a tag or AF attribute onto the canvas.
Activate the license
Open Format Symbol, paste the license key from your purchase email into the License field, and save. The watermark disappears immediately — no restart needed.
Event Frames
Pick an AF database — lanes per asset, colors per severity
Point the symbol at an AF database and every event frame in the display time range appears as a bar — grouped into lanes by asset, template, severity or name, colored by severity, following the PI Vision time bar automatically.

Hover for a configurable tooltip; click for the full picture — attributes, annotations and comments. Acknowledge, edit or annotate right there: writes go through PI Web API with the viewer’s own account.
Downtime Pareto
Causes ranked by total duration — click to filter
One toolbar button ranks every cause in the current view by total duration. Click a cause and the chart filters to exactly those events. This is the analysis plant managers actually ask for.
Time-Series Mode

Drop ordinary digital or analog tags: each tag becomes a lane and every state change becomes a bar. Search or use the per-tag state filter to isolate exactly the runs you care about.

Analog signals are split into Low/Mid/High automatically using an outlier-proof 5–95 percentile range (2–5 bands). Need exact alarm limits? Switch to manual ranges with your own labels and colors.

Choose how overlapping bars stack: compact, everything on one row, or a dedicated row per state for vertical pattern comparison. Lane height, colors, the now-line, Σ duration stats and CSV export round it out.
Event Navigation
Find events the current time range cannot see — in one click
A Gantt tied to the display time bar goes blank whenever the events are somewhere else in time, and hunting for them by dragging the time bar is guesswork. The toolbar now searches a configurable lookback, tells you how many events are out there, and moves the time bar straight to them.
Yes. Lanes can be grouped by element, event frame template, severity or any attribute, so the same set of events can be read as a per-asset timeline or a per-reason breakdown.
The toolbar reports how many event frames exist in a wider lookback window and jumps to the nearest one, so an empty chart tells you where the events are instead of just being blank.
Yes — PI Vision 2019 R2 through 2023+ are supported. The symbol uses the standard PI Vision extensibility model, so regular version upgrades do not break it, and one year of compatibility updates is included.
