How to Add a Correlation Pro to AVEVA PI Vision

Everything you need to get the PIForge Correlation Pro symbol running on your AVEVA PI Vision server — installation, license activation, and a tour of every feature with live video.

What this solves

Installation — 5 steps, about 10 minutes

   Download the package

   Purchase the symbol at piforge.app and download the ZIP from your profile. It contains four files: the symbol script (.js), two templates (.html) and an icon (.svg).

   Copy the files to the PI Vision server

   Extract all four files into the PI Vision extension folder on the server: %PIHOME64%\PIVision\Scripts\app\editor\symbols\ext\ (create the ext folder if it does not exist yet). Use %PIHOME64%, not %PIHOME% — on a PI server those are different trees and PI Vision is only in the 64-bit one.

   Restart the PI Vision application

   Recycle the PI Vision application pool in IIS (or run iisreset), then hard-refresh the browser (Ctrl+F5) so the new symbol script is loaded.

   Add the symbol to a display

   Open a display in edit mode. The new symbol appears in the symbol palette on the left. Select it, then drag a tag or AF attribute onto the canvas.

   Activate the license

   Open Format Symbol, paste the license key from your purchase email into the License field, and save. The watermark disappears immediately — no restart needed.

Thousands of data points compressed into one intuitive color map

A trend line shows you the last value. A density heatmap shows you where your process spends its time. As more data arrives, the map builds up — revealing clusters, outliers, and the true operating envelope of your process.

• Color intensity maps frequency: bright = where you run most of the time

Configurable Resolution — From Overview to Detail

Adjust bin count to match the precision your analysis needs

Coarse bins give you a fast process overview. Fine bins reveal the detailed structure within each operating region. Adjust X and Y bin resolution independently to match the range and precision of each axis.

• Low bin count (10×10): fast orientation, clear cluster centers
• High bin count (30×30): fine structure, hotspot detail within clusters

Rolling Correlation — Detect Relationship Changes in Real Time

Pearson r calculated over a sliding window — trend before it shifts

A static correlation coefficient hides the history. The rolling correlation view plots r over time using a configurable sliding window — letting you see when two variables move in lockstep and when that relationship breaks down.

• Rolling window configurable: 10 points (reactive) to 40 points (stable)
• Reference lines at r = +0.5, 0, -0.5 for instant visual benchmarking

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle lagged relationships?

Rolling correlation over a moving window shows where the relationship strengthens or breaks, which is what exposes a lag that a static scatter plot hides.

How many tags can go in the correlation matrix?

The matrix is built for scanning a unit's worth of tags at once; it computes pairwise coefficients over the display time range so you can spot the pairs worth looking at individually.

Does Correlation Pro work with my PI Vision version?

Yes — PI Vision 2019 R2 through 2023+ are supported. The symbol uses the standard PI Vision extensibility model, so regular version upgrades do not break it, and one year of compatibility updates is included.

Do I need to install anything on client PCs?

No. The symbol is installed once on the PI Vision server; every browser client gets it automatically from there.

How is it licensed?

One license covers one PI Vision server, with unlimited displays and unlimited users on that server. The key is delivered instantly by email after purchase.
